Customize private replies

The private replies functionality is available in the free version of BBP Core. It’s a feature offered in the free version of the plugin. This document explains how to configure private replies within the BBP Core Pro plugin for bbPress forums.

You can enable/disable private replies from BBP Core settings. Navigate to BBP Core Settings Private Replies .

What are Private Replies?

The private replies feature allows users to submit replies to topics that are only visible to forum owners or moderators (depending on your configuration). This enables users to share sensitive information or engage in confidential discussions about a topic.

Benefits of Private Replies:

• Confidentiality: Users can share sensitive information without it being publicly viewable.
• Enhanced moderation: Moderators can use private replies for internal discussions or to provide users with specific guidance not meant for the public forum.
• Flexibility: Private replies offer an additional communication layer within forum discussions.

Configuration Options:

While the specific settings might differ slightly depending on your version, here’s a general overview of configuration options:

1. Enable/Disable Private Replies: You can activate or deactivate the private replies feature altogether.
2. Recipient Selection: Choose who can see private replies: forum owners only, moderators, or both.
3. Label Text: Customize the text displayed next to the checkbox used for submitting private replies (e.g., “Post Private Reply”).

How Users Submit Private Replies

Once enabled and configured, users will see a checkbox within the reply form. Checking this box before submitting the reply will mark it as private.

Important Considerations:

• User Permissions: Only registered users can typically submit private replies.
• Notifications: There might be options to configure notifications for recipients of private replies.
• Moderation: Private replies don’t bypass moderation entirely. Moderators with appropriate permissions can still access and manage them.
